“Exploring the Impact of Artificial Intelligence: Trends, Concerns, and Opportunities”

Date: 28th April 2023

Dear Friend,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits. I wanted to share my thoughts on Artificial Intelligence (AI) with you in this letter. I have been exploring AI and experimenting with a few AI tools for a while. I am amazed at the capabilities of these tools,it’s like having two brains to work with. I realize that my opinion on this topic may be controversial but, I’m convinced that we are heading towards a world where the artificial brain will be much more powerful than our human brain in many areas.

I base this on the notion that our exposure, knowledge, past experiences, upbringing and interests limit the human brain’s capabilities. In contrast, these AI tools are man-made and built on the vast pool of information available on the internet. These tools can be created without any flaws or defects, and their capabilities both impress and, to some extent, worry me.

I am impressed with what they can do when I use tools like ChatGPT and Notion AI. I especially love Notion AI (Notion is a free and popular note-taking app) for its ability to summarize notes in 3-4 sentences. I recently tweeted tagging Bear (the notes app I use), saying that having a feature like this in Bear would be great.

However, I am concerned about the rapid pace of technological advancement. It’s becoming difficult to understand where the world is going, and this is not the first time we are facing this situation. The past has seen many revolutions; we have seen the Industrial Revolution, the Green Revolution, and the Information Revolution. According to Varun Mayya, the man I follow for all the updates regarding this AI stuff, this AI revolution is slightly different from the others because the growth of AI is not a linear curve; it’s an exponential curve. To simplify, it is similar to getting 250%, 400%, and then 750% salary hikes on a month-on-month basis (the numbers are just taken for example).

There are many opinions on the internet regarding the rapid growth of artificial intelligence. Some top business leaders say it will create new jobs, which I am sure it will. The only question will be the scale. Will it create jobs at the scale that other revolutions have created in the past? On the other hand, Elon Musk took an extreme position in one of his talks; he said that we could end up in a world where robots can colonize humans, predicting something similar to the movie Wall-E. No matter what happens, one thing is clear: this is a space that we should give proper attention to. History shows that once a technology is out-resisting it, will not stop its mass adoption. The world’s best brains and resources are being poured into AI, and something fruitful will come out of this.

As a content creator, I have found AI to be incredibly helpful in writing blog posts, Twitter threads, and optimizing SEO for my website. As a finance professional who relies heavily on Excel, AI simplifies my work by generating formulas with prompts. The capabilities of these tools are truly astonishing. Whether we like it or not, AI is becoming more integrated into our society every day, and it is essential that we stay informed and trained on this technology.

To stay updated, I recommend following people like Varun and reading about AI online. Additionally, there is a free newsletter from LLa (Labor Law Advisor) that covers recent developments in the AI world, which you can subscribe to. I encourage you to try out some of these AI tools for yourself and share your thoughts on this rapidly advancing tech.

With Regards,

D.S.S.R. Anirudh
